Cleveland entrepreneur James Levin is always coming up with a new idea that impacts arts and culture in northeast Ohio. He founded Cleveland Public Theatre, and co-founded the Ingenuity and Cleveland World Festivals. Now he’s got another new thing: the first annual FireFish Festival of Fire, Art and Water, which will take place in downtown Lorain and the Black River Landing waterfront on Sat 9/26.

The FireFish Festival expands on the 2013-2014 countywide public arts project Follow the Fish, which celebrated the area’s waterfront. Planning for the FireFish Festival began late last year.

Described as “a celebration of arts and fire,” it will feature dance, music, theater and art performances and displays in offbeat locations around the festival area such as rooftops and abandoned buildings, much as the original editions of Ingenuity did. But instead of combining the arts with technology, FireFish will spotlight acts that incorporate fire, such as fire dancers and fire jugglers.

The programming will feature regional artists and performers including the Great Lakes Opera and the new Cleveland Cabaret Project, along with interactive activities. And a group of area artists are creating the festival’s centerpiece: a giant fish sculpture that spews fire. Complete programming and schedule of activities hasn’t been announced yet; we’ll have more later. In the meantime, you can stay updated by visiting the festival’s website.
