Reeds player Ken Vandermark and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love are two of the most established and respected players in the avant-garde improvisational jazz scene. Chicagoan Vandermark and Norwegian Nilssen-Love have worked together as a duo on and off for well over a decade (like most musicians in that scene, they work in numerous configurations with different players), recording eight albums together since 2003’s Dual Pleasures. They’re now touring in support of their latest release, a live album, but of course, given the nature of the music, their performances will be dissimilar from the record.

The Ken Vandermark/Paal Nilssen-Love Duo will perform their challenging and often revelatory music at the Beachland Tavern with local free jazz ensemble the Oblique Orchestra, led by reed player Dan Wenninger, opening.

Tickets are $15.

The show is being co-promoted with the Beachland by New Ghosts, an organization formed early this year to bring exactly these types of experimental artists to different venues around town. Find their whole fall season here.
