Sat 8/15 @ 7pm

Since 1959 Dobama Theatre has been serving up professionally produced plays not offered at other theaters. Today they’re still going strong and their 2015-2016 season may be the best yet. Want a sneak peek? Get in on their new season launch party happening Sat 8/15. RSVPs are required but you don’t need to purchase tickets — the event is totally free.

We spoke to Nathan Motta, Artistic Director at Dobama Theatre, about Dobama’s upcoming season and what makes the company unique.

CoolCleveland: What’s new and exciting about Dobama’s upcoming season?

Nathan Motta: Besides an exciting line-up of shows, (including 5 time Tony award winner PETER AND THE STARCATCHER), we’ve made a number of improvements this summer for the upcoming season. We’ve re-designed our lobby areas, have beautiful new brochures ready for the new season, we’re launching a brand new website on August 15th, and we’ve created some new ways for our audiences to engage with the theatre and each other for a more exciting and fun theatre-going experience.

What can attendees expect at the launch party?

Attendees can walk our new red carpet, take photos in front of our new social media backdrop, check out our new lobby design, and enjoy complimentary drinks. The short program will include a tour of the new website, an interview with the director of our first show of the season, OR, a scene from PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, a chance to pick up the new brochure, and purchase memberships or gift certificates.

What would you want people to realize about Dobama that they otherwise might not know? What is the ideal take away message for attendees?

The major take away should be that Dobama Theatre is continuing to grow and make improvements to the region’s only professional theatre dedicated entirely to new plays coming onto the American Theatre scene. We hope people have a good time and realize that they are a part of the Dobama family and have a lot to look forward during the 2015/16 Season and beyond. We hope this is fun and informal way to come to the theatre, hear about what’s coming up, see the new stuff, ask questions, and perhaps bring someone who might not be familiar with Dobama.

How has Dobama grown and will continue to grow?

Last season was our first as an Equity Theatre and… was our highest attended year in our 55 years. Audiences have responded that they love the intimacy of our stage and the professional level of the productions. There could be no better compliment or measure of our growth and success than more people coming to see what we do and spreading the word or bringing friends.

Anything else you’d like to add?

We couldn’t be more excited to share the improvements we’ve made to enhance patrons’ theatre-going experience and make it more fun to come to the theatre! We are also thrilled at the dynamic line-up of shows beginning with the sexy, inventive new comedy OR, opening September 4th.
