Sat 8/22 @ 11AM

Musician/physical therapist Dave Smeltz has been on quite a journey, one you can read about in his memoir Clean: From Reggae to Recovery. It tells how Smeltz, founder of the Cleveland’s I-Tal, which first brought reggae to mainstream Cleveland club audiences, lost himself in drug abuse and worked his way back to a productive life. The proceeds of the book benefit Clean House, a recovery facility he’s putting together in the Buckeye neighborhood.

Part of his recovery involved martial arts and meditation training, which he’ll be using to assist Clean House residents in their own recovery. In the meantime, Smeltz will be sharing that training with community members in two free classes at the Passport Project. He’ll be teaching the basics of Liu Seong Gungfu, Kuntao and Tai Chi and guiding class members in the use of mindfulness to uplift mind, body and soul.
