So the summer’s winding down and northeast Ohio’s wealth of outdoor summer concerts will soon be history for another season. But before they go away, catch the final edition of MOCA’s The Beat Uptown, which has been showcasing original local bands throughout August.

The last one is headlined by Obnox, who you’d better catch when you can because this is one busy group. It’s a project of vocalist/guitarist Lamont “Bim” Thomas, who’s previously played with Bassholes and This Moment in Black History. He’s had Obnox as a side project for over a decade. But in the last several years, he’s been cranking out releases at a furious pace and hitting the road more frequently — the group toured Europe in July. They call themselves a “punk band,” and while that might describe their attitude and aggression, the music is more thought-provoking and eclectic than that suggests.

Opening will be organ-based punk rockers Archie & the Bunkers, a pair of teenage brothers who have been furiously gigging around town, building up the chops and experience to take them to the next level. They’ve got a record release show at the Beachland in September.

The Beat Uptown is free; drinks are available for purchase. In addition, the museum is open until 9pm for those who want to check out the art between bands.
