Wonderland

With everything that’s going on around here, you’d be forgiven if you mistook the Forest City for some new Wonderland, sprung from the imagination of an exceptionally visionary artist.

Whether it’s Dobama gazing ahead to its 57th year or the Lakewood Car Kulture show looking back before 1972, a Rock-n-Wine party at Harpersfield Vineyard or the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland, a creative play date at the Akron Art Museum or a rooftop dinner at the Music Box, if you can dream it, this town’s got it.

Hors d’ouerves in the Eastman Reading Garden sounds about right, or maybe some painted rain barrels. Learn about faith & feminism, or take a walking tour of the Circle. Maybe it’s time for a Marsalis on the trombone at Blu Jazz in Akron. Is it time for politics already? C. Ellen Connally analyzes the big race, and I’ve been arguing with Mansfield all week. As usual, he wins. Little wonder. –Thomas Mulready

In just a few years – 13 to be exact – Lakewood’s Car Kulture celebration has become a really big deal. A section of Madison Avenue is closed down and hundreds of pre-1972 cars converge, with their owners often dressed in era-appropriate styles. There’s music, there’s dancing, there’s a pin-up contest, there’s food – and as many as 5,000 people turn out to take in the scene. Sat 8/15.

If you have any prescription medications at home, it’s possible you also have outdated or unused pills in your medicine cabinet beside them. Not sure how to dispose of them safely?

In days past, it was common for meds to be flushed down the toilet rather than being thrown into the garbage where they could be a threat to children or pets. But the truth is that flushing them can be a threat too: A threat to the environment. Find the best way to pitch your pills safely through the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s #PitchThosePills initiative.
