X Film ‘The Unheard Music’ Screens @MusicBoxCle

Wed 7/8 @ 7PM

Last September, critically revered Los Angeles punk quartet X, who made a big spalsh with a series of albums in the early-mid ’80s, came to the Music Box Supper Club on a tour for which they performed their complete albums on successive nights.

But if you’d like a little taste of what was causing all the ruckus back then, there’s the documentary X: The Unheard Music, filmed from 1980-1985 at performances and supplemented with interviews, and released in 1986.

That film will be screened at the Music Box at a special party/kickoff event for its “Name Exene’s Artwork Contest.” Exene Cervenka, X’s vocalist, created a collage inspired by her visit to Cleveland last fall, which will be on display in the Music Box lobby the night of the screening and afterward. Starting that night and continuing online through 7/17, people can submit their titles.

The winners will be announced onstage when X returns to perform at the Music Box on Wed 7/22. The grand prizewinner will get to meet Exene on the night of the concert and receive a $200 Music Box gift card, plus tickets to host 10 friends at an upcoming concert there. The runners-up also get ticket packages.

The screening, which is free, will take place in the club’s private dinner room and will also feature drink and food specials. To reserve a spot, email the box office at boxoffice@musicboxcle.com.
