The Spyder Stompers & Sugar Pie Bring Old-Time Music to @HoldenArboretum

SPyderStompersSugarPie

Tue 7/28 @ 7PM

The four members of the Spyder Stompers and Sugar Pie — guitarist/harmonica player Jack DiAlesandro, multi-instrumentalist Kevin Richards, bassist Ray DeForest and ukulele player Sheela Das — take listeners back in time to the first half of 20th century, performing pre-war acoustic country/folk/gospel/blues, the kind of music people played when they had to rely on themselves to provide it. These folks aren’t amateurs though — they’re some of the area’s most experienced professional musicians. But they still manage to produce a sound that feels raw and uncalculated.

They’ll be performing at Holden Arboretum for its summer concert series. Admission is only $5 after 5pm. You can bring a picnic or buy something there — they offer a special gourmet menu — and spend a little time walking the arboretum’s trails before the 7pm concert. If it rains, the concert takes place indoors in the visitor center.
