Summer Concert Series @ MOCACleveland Kicks Off With Generators Reunion

GeneratorsReunion

Thu 7/30 @ 6PM

Summer is starting to wind down but the Beat Uptown, the Thursday night concert series on MOCA’s outdoor plaza, is just revving up. And if you missed the big Generators reunion show last July at the Beachland Ballroom, you’re in luck: they’ll be getting back together once again to kick it all off.

During their brief lifespan from 1979-1982, the new wave pop/rock band was considered one of Cleveland’s hottest prospects for national success. The band’s upbeat, harmony-heavy sound made them radio-ready and WMMS jumped on board, pushing them as one of its “Pride of Cleveland” bands.

They released a couple of independent singles but they didn’t snag the big record deal before internal conflict claimed the band. While singer Eva Dilcue and guitarist Neon Don Buchanan still play around town, bassist Glen Toszar aka Stutz Bearcat and the band’s singer/guitarist/chief songwriter Mark Addison live out of town now, making opportunities for reunion shows rare. So catch them when you can.

As at the Beachland, David Loy & the Ramrods will be opening the MOCA show. It’s free.

The concerts run weekly through 8/27.

Cities and Coasts and Midnight Passenger play on 8/7; Johnny & the Apple Stompers and JP & the Chatfield Boys bring the country and rockabilly on 8/13. The Admirables will play a full evening of their instrumental soul on 8/20 and two original indie rock acts, Obnox and Archie and the Bunker close things down on 8/27
