Red Light Roxy Brings ’40s Swing to Lake View Cemetery

Sun 7/12 @ 4PM

Red Light Roxy is one of those local musical treasures that has slipped under the radar of a lot of people who would love them if they knew about them.

The group comprises some of the area’s top jazz musicians letting their hair down and having fun playing ’40s-style swing jazz designed more for dancing than intense, full-attention listening. They perform music associated with performers like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Peggy Lee, with copious selections from the ever-popular Great American Songbook.

The group includes seasoned area veterans: pianist Joe Hunter, sax player Dave Sterner, guitarist Daris Adkins, drummer Glenn Davis, bassist Demetrius Steinmetz, and slinky red-haired vocalist/actress Eileen Burns who embodies the era in her appearance as well as her vocals and recently spent a year touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Red Light Roxy is next up at the Lake View Cemetery’s biweekly free summer music series. It takes place on the sweeping lawn in front of the Garfield Memorial so there’s plenty of room to dance. Wear comfortable shoes.
