PHOTOSTREAM: Dedication of the Harvey Pekar Plaza on Coventry Road

Sat 7/25

The plaza at the intersection of Coventry Road and Euclid Heights Boulevard was dedicated to the late Harvey Pekar, nationally noted writer of graphic novels and short stories and a Cleveland Heights resident. While young  people decorated the plaza’s stones with chalk drawings, various Heights/Coventry luminaries including Mayor Dennis Wilcox and “mayor” of Coventry Village Steve Presser spoke to the crowd, along with Pekar’s wife, Joyce Brabner, before she pulled the cloth away to reveal the plaque made in Harvey’s honor.

Harvey’s books were available for purchase along with those of other graphic novelists, such as Cleveland’s Jake Kelly who set up his own table. Heights Arts provided the opportunity for hands-on art making, while the Heights Jazz Band played for those hanging around afterward.
