Ohio City Stages closes its July series of free global music shows/block parties on the street outside the Transformer Station with Mexico’s Los Cojolites.
Hailing from the southeastern state of Veracruz on the Gulf of Mexico, the relatively young group — who were nominated for a Grammy in 2013 — play a form of music known as Son Jarocha. It incorporates indigenous, Spanish and African sounds that reflect the country’s polyglot cultural strands. The group just released a new album, Zapateando, late last year, returning to traditional roots with their versions of classics of the Son Jarocha repertoire.
There are food trucks and a beer station on site; you can also bring your own picnic, along with your blanket or chair. And there’s plenty of room for dancing!
