Nigerian superstar King Sunny Ade, who was originally booked to kick off the third season of Ohio City Stages, a free outdoor block party taking place on West 29thStreet outside the Transformer Station, has cancelled his entire summer tour due to visa problems. But that’s not stopping the show from going on.

The July series of world music concerts will instead open with Amazonian cumbia band Los Wembler’s de Iquitos who are making their debut Cleveland appearance on their first U.S. tour.

From the city of Iquitos, Peru, the ensemble features the five Sanchez brothers who helped launch the chicha craze in the ’70s, a distinctly Peruvian traditional-meets-modern take on Colombian cumbia, incorporating Andean sounds into music performed on synths and electric guitars.

Ohio City Stages continues  with the Ondatropica project, performing tropical/Columbian music, on 7/15, followed by Mailian Taureg desert rockers Tamikrest on 7/22 and closing with Mexcian son jarocho ensemble Los Cojolites on 7/29.
