The Music in the Valley Folk & Wine Festival at Hale Farm & Village is a great day in the country for the whole family, particularly if the family likes to hear low-key music played in an informal, bucolic setting.

The two-day event features area folk musicians and singer-songwriters, booked in collaboration with two of the area’s biggest supporters of that kind of music, the nonprofit organization Folknet and the Barking Spider Tavern which books a variety of music 364 nights a year. The performers include Columbus-based Krista Solars (pictured), who is both a fiddler and a violinist (same instrument, different approaches) with a degree from Oberlin Conservatory as well as numerous fiddling championships under her belt, Cold Stone Soup, Red Brick Rhoades, Brent Kirby, Charlie Mosbrook and Rock Salt & Nails.

Visitors can walk around the grounds, checking out the performers while tasting wines from several Ohio wineries and visiting Hale Farm & Villages regular attractions devoted to life in Oho in the 1800s.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 ages 3-12. Wine tastings are $10 for a glass and five tasting tickets.
