Akron’s BluJazz is known primarily for the array of outstanding local, regional and national jazz artists it books 4-5 nights a week. But they’re going to be mixing it up a little, with a new late night comedy series every Saturday for those who just don’t want to call it a night.
Dubbed Cure for the Blu’s, the shows will be cohosted by Akron’s Eric Brewer and Canton’s Willis Gordon (pictured), who will preside over lineups of both local and touring talent. Opening night will feature both Brewer and Gordon doing their routines, along with well-traveled Cleveland natives Dwayne Duke, Brian Kenny and Joe Perrow.
Admission is $7 — but it’s only $5 if purchased with a ticket to the concert earlier in the evening by a quintet fronted by Akron trumpet player Josh Rzepka, now based in Chicago. They’ll play the music of Clark Terry, Marcus Belgrave and Dizzy Gillespie. so come and stay for the entire evening. BluJazz has a menu of small plates, entrees and sandwiches, as well as cocktails, wines and craft beers.
