Cleveland Independents is a group of almost 90 locally owned independent restaurants, the type of establishments that have gotten a national buzz started about the area’s food scene.
But with their one-day Cookies for Kids promotion, they’re giving some thought to people for whom a thriving restaurant scene isn’t even on the radar. The group’s members will be selling cookies today for $2.50 each, the amount they say will provide one meal for one child.
The money they raise will go to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to help feed children over the summer when they don’t have access to school meals — which often provide a bulk of many children’s diets.
