Singer/songwriter Jennifer Hall has been working her hometown Chicago music scene hard to the last five years. She’s attracted attention, performing at high-profile venues like the Metro and Schubas, with her soulful, passionate vocals, which draw on R&B and indie rock (She cites influences ranging from Adele and Otis Redding to St. Vincent and Rufus Wainwright).

She’s just released an EP, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, and she’s now on the road, working to win over audiences up and down the east coast and throughout the Great Lakes region. And she’s really doing it indie-style: when she’s in Cleveland, she’ll be doing an early set at the Barking Spider, which often finds room to squeeze a promising newcomer like Hall onto its schedule along with its outstanding roster of local jazz, folk, blues, bluegrass and rock regulars.

Speaking of which, stick around for local singer/songwriter Rick Szekelyi at 8 and jazz pianist George Foley and friends at 10.

As usual, there’s no cover at the Spider, a low-key hangout spot on the Case Western Reserve campus. They pass a hat for the performers.
