The Grass Is Dead Blend Jam and Bluegrass @MusicBoxCle

GrassIsDead

Wed 7/1 @ 9PM

The Grass Is Dead, a quintet from Florida, have spent 17 years on the road pushing a musical concept that’s really not much of a stretch: they play Grateful Dead songs bluegrass-style. Given that Grateful Dead leader/guru Jerry Garcia had a sideline as an ardent practitioner of bluegrass/newgrass music, the two seem to go together naturally.

Among the members of the band is Clevelander Brittany Reilly on bass, known to locals from her own Brittany Reilly Band, which includes her husband guitar player Brent Hopper. He’s also the guitarist for The Grass is Dead.

They’re hitting the road for some summer dates that will find them traveling from New York to Colorado. They’ll be stopping at the Music Box Supper Club for their Fare The Well Party with the Haight Street Revue — basically the Brittany Reilly Band — doing music of the Grateful Dead and their contemporaries opening. If no amount of Grateful Dead is too much for you, you’ll want to be there.

Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
