Selflessness

Magnanimity is all around us. Our region’s cultural life was endowed by industrialists starting over 100 years ago. And the generosity continues. Feeling down? Help someone, and the karma is sure to flow right back. Feeling good? Pass it on.

Ricky Smith suggests doing something nice, then paying it (not too far) forward with a 1/2K Run for #RAKE, while Esperanza, Inc.’s Fiesta Of Hope will turn your lunch into 100 college scholarships. Hilary Gent mentors young women artists in her new show Material Girls while Cleveland Exotic Dance offers a Twerkshop Crash Course. On one side of town, the Edge district hosts the Clifton Arts & Musicfest, while on the other, Larchmere’s porches will be alive with music, in our CoolNeighborhood of the week.

Above and beyond those good works, the issue you’re scrolling through highlights dozens of non-profit shows, concerts, openings, photo ops, activist talks, benefits and plenty of places to play. Check out the block party at the Akron Art Museum, join the ZENworks yoga benefit at Edgewater, or help United Way stuff their bus full of books for kids. Looking for an  internship? Reach out.

Whether it’s offering a handout or a hand up, we hope you will find someone to help this week. –Thomas Mulready
