Now in Its Fourth Year, @ChamberFestCle Crosses Borders

Chamberfest

Wed 6/17-7/1

ChamberFest Cleveland has dubbed its fourth season “Crossing Borders,” which expands what it’s actually been doing since it launched in 2012, with a mission to bring chamber music to a variety of venues including some where it’s not usually heard. Each year it’s featured a stellar ensemble of classical musicians performing in different configurations reflecting different aspects of music.

Its two weeks’ worth of performances this year will include a special concert called “FRANK!” that pays tribute to ChamberFest cofounder (with his daughter Diana), clarinetist Franklin Cohen (pictured), who has just retired from the Cleveland Orchestra after 39 years. That event, featuring an all-star orchestra, takes place Fri 6/19 at the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Kulas Hall and will be followed by a post-concert party at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

It’s one of ten events that start Wed 6/17 @ 8PM with “Down the Danube” at SPACES gallery. That concert features works by composers from the Danube region — Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania — including Mozart, Dvořák, Bartók, Ligeti and Enescu. A dozen musicians will participate and join the audience afterward for an opening night party at the Music Box Supper Club.

Other events will take place at CIM’s Mixon Hall, Harkness Chapel on the Case Western Reserve campus, the Wine Spot in Cleveland Heights, the Dunham Tavern Museum, and, for the finale on 7/1, the Blackstone Organ House in Bratenahl will host “Stars and Stripes,” concluding with an after-concert picnic. More than two dozen musicians will perform over the course of ChamberFest 2015.

Tickets for single events are $40; various levels of festival passes for the entire festival or multiple events are available too. Go to the ChamberFestCleveland website for more information about individual concerts and to buy tickets, or call 216-471-8853.
