Thu 6/25 @ 8PM

A couple of poets with ties to Kent State will be taking the stage at Nighttown, accompanied by a full band for an evening of jazz and poetry. Vince Robinson, who graduated from KSU, has been writing poetry for 35 years and has performed his own work all over town. He’s also competed in the National Poetry Slam. He often performs with his band, the Jazz Poets: drummer Reggie Holmes, bassist Lenny Jennings, guitarist Sam Hooper and sax player J.D. Goldberg.

Mwatabu Okantah, also a KSU grad, is now poet in residence and associate professor of Pan-African studies at his alma mater. He too is known for the performance aspect of his work, with his ensemble, Muntu Kuntu Energy (MKE), of which Robinson recently assumed the role of musical director.

Expect an evening of intense music and intricate, thought-provoking wordplay.

Tickets are $20.
