Concrete Blonde’s Johnette Napolitano Plays a Solo Show @MusicBoxCle

Johnette

Wed 7/8 @ 8PM

Johnette Napolitano first came to the attention of the public with the ’80s new wave band Concrete Blonde, dominated by her smooth, rich and pliable voice.

The group had been together nearly a decade when they first achieved national success with its darkly alluring third album, Bloodletting, in 1990 and the hit single from it, “Joey.”

The group disbanded in the mid ’90s, although they’ve had a couple of reunions and are currently active again. Napolitano, meanwhile, has stayed active with projects like Pretty & Twisted and Vowel Movement and some solo gigs such as the one she’ll play at the Music Box Supper Club. With only a single solo album, 2007’s Scarred, odds are pretty good she’ll be doing some Concrete Blonde material.

Her opening act is someone else Clevelanders might remember from that era: Laurie Sargent, who fronted Boston new wave rockers Face to Face in the ’80s.

Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door.
