Avant-Garde Duo Secret Keeper Plays @BopStopTMS

SecretKeeper

Sat 6/13 @ 8PM

Each half of the musically voracious improvisational duo Secret Keeper is a respected musician/composer in his/her own right. Trained in classical music and jazz, guitarist Mary Halvorson and bassist Stephan Crump have demonstrated the flexibility of their musical muscles through collaborations with some of the best players in New York’s avant-garde scene; Crump has played with Jorma Kaukonen, Patti Austin, Johnny Clyde Copeland and members of the Violent Femmes and Portishead as well as his wife, singer/songwriter Jen Chapin.

Together, they’ve shared their so-called “chamber jazz” on two albums now: 2013’s Super Eight and the new Emerge. They will perform at the Bop Stop, in a show promoted by Cleveland’s New Ghosts, formed this past winter to support boundary-breaking music in the tradtion of Cleveland-bred sax player Albert Ayler, who died in New York in 1970 at the age of 32 but left a deep vein of influence in his wake.

Tickets are $15.
