Sun 7/5 @ 3-5PM

Akron singer-songwriter Tracey Thomas has been through many musical lifetimes. As the frontwoman for the edgy pop band Unit 5 in the late ’70s and early ’80s, she rose to the top of Akron’s new wave scene. In the ’90s she began releasing a series of moving and beautifully crafted solo albums, the latest 2012’s The Queen of Nothing. She’s also broadened her musical range, playing country and jazz, with a particular fondness of the music of Billie Holiday. Now she’s the founder and director of the Akron Center for Art Music and Performance (Akron CAMP) which just opened last month.

Obviously she has a lot to teach those who are still new (or even not-so-new) at the game. So she’s hosting a songwriting clinic, primarily for beginners, at Akron CAMP. In a casual setting, she’ll provide you with some tips for turning your song ideas or lyrics into full-blown compositions. Slots are limited so that Thomas can devote some time to the ideas and questions of each attendee.

It’s $40 per person. Register by emailing akroncamp118@gmail.com
