It seems like everyone who was ever in a local band gets an itch at some point to relive the glory days. And why not? It’s generally like a family reunion, with all the fans who used to come out every weekend getting to act young again.

Tonguethrust played a lot of area bars in the late ’70s. While they were never a band on track for stardom, they were a lot of fun. And they included some topnotch musicians who were known for their work with other projects: drummer Don Krueger and bassist Steve Knill both played in the Eric Carmen Band in the mid ’70s; guitarist Don Kriss had his own band which got some local airplay; and guitarist Rick Christyson was a long-time member of Cats on Holiday until recently.

They’ll be getting together again for one of their occasional concerts (when Knill is back in town; the other three still live here) at Wilbert’s on the eve of July 4th. Joining them on the bill is Bluestone Union, who worked the local circuit in the early-mod ’70s, milking the area’s passion for glitter rock. It’s only got one of the members from its best-known lineup, drummer Wally Gunn, although original guitarists Kurt Campbell and Ron Sukalak are in it too. They’ve been playing out semi-regularly, doing the sort of ’60s and early ’70s repertoire they did back in the day.
