It’s grand opera time again at Severance Hall as the Cleveland Orchestra brings on board a cast of singers and the men of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus to perform Richard Strauss’ Daphne.
The one-act opera, a romantic tragedy roughly based on Greek and Roman mythology, will feature German soprano Regine Hangler (pictured) in the title role, along with tenor Andreas Schager as Apollo, tenor Norbert Ernst as Daphe’s friend Leukippos, bass Ain Anger as Daphne’s father Peneios and mezzo-soprano Nancy Maltsby as her mother Gaea. Bryna Pascoe is featured as the dancer.
The production, which will have two performances, is directed by James Darrah with the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by its music director Franz Welser-Möst.
Tickets are $71-$226.
