Bella Sin, head honcho of local burlesque troupe Le Femme Mystique and producer of the Ohio Burlesque Festival, hit another one out of the ballpark with her 5th annual Roxy Remembered showcase at the Beachland Ballroom.

The show was about both the present and the past of the art form, with a display of materials in the lobby relating to burlesque history, especially that of former Cleveland burlesque palace. And in the audience was a burlesque legend, Detroit’s Toni Elling, perhaps its biggest-ever African-American star, now in her ’80s. She was brought onstage —twice — and given a proclamation and an ovation from both the audience and performers.

Those performers included Detroit’s Lushes LaMoan, along with Le Femme Mystique regulars Eliza Sidecar, graceful belly dancer Mahsitti, the flirtatious Doll Bambino, and Sin herself, demonstrating her grace and creativity with a pair of huge red feather fans. Dancing newcomers to the troupe, Slim Pastie and Daphne Dangerfield, made their debut. Another regular to these shows, Lady J Martinez, offered the crowd a new look: ornate 17th-century court attire.

Live music — mostly early-mid 20th century classic pop tunes — was provided by Miss Alexandra Huntingdon and her band, the Gentleman’s Intermission, with Abby Downton and Ken Schneck trading ripostes as hosts.
