PHOTOSTREAM: Hessler Street Fair

Sat 5/16-Sun 5/17

Where can you go today find peace, love, good vibes,, tie-dye and gentle people with flowers in their hair? Why the Hessler Street Fair, of course. It started in 1969 and it still feels like it’s 1969 with long-haired ladies in peasant blouses and long swirling skirts and men in vintage Grateful Dead T-shirts.

The booths offer locally made goodies — some made in the buildings lining the block-long brick street — both edibles and crafts. Harmony Park offers things for kids to do that engage their imaginations. And the music  on stage is mostly made for swaying and weaving and dancing with strangers. Sunday the fair concluded with a triple hit of good-vibes sounds — the Afrobeat-based music of Hybrid Shakedown and Fiscal Spliff and Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band’s uplifting roots reggae.
