Healthy Food Activists March Against Monsanto GMOs @MaMCleveland

MarchAgainstMonsanto

The battle over GMOs is getting heated. These genetically modified crops were touted as the answer to world hunger, increasing the productivity of staples like corn and soybeans. But many people are wary of their impact on human health — although it hasn’t been proved one way or the other whether they are harmful or not — and are pushing for GMO labeling laws. Companies like Monsanto, which created these crops, have defeated them at the ballot box with outlandish amounts of money.

That’s only stoked suspicion that there’s something wrong with them, especially since most people aren’t asking they be banned, only labeled. Some food companies and restaurants, such as Ohio City’s Townhall, promote that they are GMO-free. (All organic food is non-GMO).

The March Against Monsanto, taking place outside the West Side Market on its busiest day, will feature a lineup of speakers advocating for GMO labeling, including Carl Skalak, Jane Hash, Andrew Demeter, Chris Kennedy, Kayla Barnes and Debbie Herring. Come and learn what they are concerned about.
