Farm to Table Raises Money for @NUFarmersMarket & @CBGarden

Farm2Table

Mon 6/8 @ 5:30PM

Twenty years ago, northeast Ohio didn’t have farmers markets all over the place every day of the week all summer. But when a small group of visionaries launched the first North Union Farmers Market at Shaker Square to feature locally grown and made foods, they laid the cornerstone for a movement.

Now North Union runs eight markets, including its original one. It’s a nonprofit whose mission goes well beyond just providing an outlet for local farmers and producers. It hosts chef demonstrations, promotes healthier eating, accepts and multiplies food assistance and hosts a Garlic Festival.

To fund its range of activities as well as programs at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, it hosts its annual Farm to Table benefit, now in its 17th year. Taking place at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, it features food from 25 restaurants, chefs and food producers, all locally based and following the principles the North Union Markets have established. It also includes an open wine bar.

The evening will also feature a presentation by Dr. Mark Hyman of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, who will talk about the connection between the food we eat and our health.

Tickets are $85 for members of either the North Union Farmers Market or the Cleveland Botanical Garden, $100 for non-members. Make reservations at cbgarden.org or by calling 216-721-1600 ext. 100.
