For those who yearn for the heartfelt authenticity of older country music and don’t quite relate to the party-all-the-time mentality of today’s chart-topping bro country, the Music Box Supper Club has a double bill you should check out, with a couple of duos coming at country from different — and refreshing — directions.

The Secret Sisters (pictured) are Laura and Lydia Rogers from Florence, Alabama, just outside the legendary music capital of Muscle Shoals. Their traditional take on country music is fueled by their lilting, heartbreaking harmonies. New to the music scene, they released their second album, Put Your Needle Down, produced by noted producer T-Bone Burnett, last year.

Very busy producer, one might add. In addition to producing everyone from Elton John to Diana Krall to John Mellencamp, Burnett produced Nothing But the Silence, the recently released debut album of the other, even newer, group on the bill, Striking Matches. Featuring singer/guitarist/songwriters Sarah Zimmerman and Justin Davis, Striking Matches falls more into the alternative country camp, incorporating some blues and a lot of rock & roll into their high-energy electric sound.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
