Brent Kirby has been at the center of the local music scene for almost a decade — performing with roots rockers the Jack Fords, putting out solo music, hosting the 3 x 10 songwriter showcases every Wednesday at Brothers Lounge, playing drums for holiday band the Ohio City Singers, performing monthly with his Gram Parsons tribute band New Soft Shoe and teaching music in local public school classrooms.
He’s not originally from Cleveland, but few people have contributed more to the area’s music scene in the last decade. And despite all that activity, which sounds like he might be spreading himself thin, he’s one of the best songwriters around, with a timeless style that draws on everything that’s made rock and roll what it is while adding a deeply personal take to his tunes.
So it’s good news that he’s finally following up his 2011 album Coming Back to Life, with a new effort called Patience Worth.
Kirby and his current band the Luck will be debuting that album at the Music Box Supper Club. Local eclectic rock trio Kiss Me Deadly opens.
