Friends of the Cleveland City Kennel Presents Its @artfuranimals Benefit

Art Fur Animals

Sat 5/30 @ 6PM

The 11th Annual Art Fur Animals benefit for the Friends of Cleveland City Kennel takes place at Red Space Gallery in Hotcards World Headquarters. Starting at 6pm, join over 400 animal and art lovers. Guests enjoy the chance to bid on artwork in the live and silent auctions, buy tickets for raffle prizes, eat delicious snacks, drink wine and beer served by celebrity bartenders and dance the night away to music from DJ Funk Schway.

“Cleveland Animal Control (CAC) receives an average of 75 or more dogs a week,” says Becca Britton, director and founder of Friends of the Clevleand Kennel. “Only 14% of these dogs are claimed by their owners. Cleveland Animal Control is extremely underfunded by the city of Cleveland, considering the large and never decreasing intake numbers. Friends of the Cleveland Kennel provides the animals with medical care, necessary supplies for the care of the animals and basic comforts during their stay there.

“The majority of the animals that arrive at CAC have been neglected,” she says. “Many of these animals require life-saving medical care including surgery. It is our goal to provide a second chance to all animals who arrive at CAC, regardless of how poorly the facility is funded by the city.”

The Friends of the City of Cleveland Kennel’s mission is to provide the necessary medical and general care to the homeless and abused dogs and cats that arrive at Cleveland Animal Control. The annual budget for medical care for animals at Cleveland Animal Control is $40K and growing each year. The organization also works to raise awareness in the community by providing resources and education to Cleveland residents via outreach events in low-income neighborhoods and free spay/neuter services.

“In addition, our work to decrease intake numbers is as much of priority,” says Becca. “Friends of the Cleveland Kennel has spearheaded — we are in our fourth year — the efforts to provide basic free wellness services and microchip/ID tag identification to targeted low-income neighborhoods in Cleveland via free Wellness Events. Friends of the Cleveland Kennel not only supports and saves lives that arrive at Animal Control, but works to keep animals in their homes to avoid them arriving there at all.”

There will be 1-2 dogs available for adoption at the event from Cleveland Animal Control. 100% of the proceeds from Art Fur Animals will go toward assisting the efforts of Friends of the Cleveland Kennel.

“We have over 100 artists that donate art to this event,”concludes Becca. “The crowd that attends this event are typically art and/or animal lovers. It’s an extremely mixed crowd, varying from ages 25 to 65. If you are looking for a great party with food, drinks and music, lots of art, great people, all for a great cause,.this is the event for you.”
