Sun 4/26 @ 7PM

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are a pair of singer/songwriter/guitarists whose work is a cornerstone of the genre that became known as Americana, although both began their careers before that term was being bandied about.

Hiatt began his career in the mid ’70s. And while most of his nearly two dozen albums have been more critically acclaimed than commercially successful, his reputation as a songwriter has propelled his career, as his songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Rosanne Cash, Paula Abdul, Iggy Pop, Jimmy Buffett and Jewel, among many others.

Lyle Lovett, who made his recording debut in 1986, has one of the most distinctive songwriting and vocal personalities in the Americana genre, drawing on blues, swing, country and rock to craft his quirky, often humorous songs that make heavy use of his Texas pedigree to give them their flavor.

Although their songwriting styles differ, with Hiatt’s being more universal and Lovett’s more dependent on his unique delivery to fully animate them, that contrast makes them excellent touring mates. And they’re bringing their acoustic show — just the two of them, singing, telling stories, joking around — to the Akron Civic Theatre.

Tickets are $38-$58.
