The Portland Cello Project was formed in 2007 to explore what kind of unexpected things an ensemble consisting only of cellos could play. With a rotating cast of players numbering from 4-12 at any given time, the group has played traditional classical music in untraditional venues as well as brought a cheeky, distinctive approach to songs by Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.

They’re currently on the road touring to e.s., a tribute album to cultish singer-songwriter Elliott Smith and sometime Portland resident, who committed suicide in 2003, leaving behind a body of morose and haunting work fueled by his troubled life.

They’ll be in Cleveland to perform at the Music Box Supper Club. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door.
