Jeremy Denk, 2013 MacArthur Fellow

Thu 4/23 @ 7:30PM

Fri 4/24 @ 8PM

Sat 4/25 @ 8PM

Pianist Jeremy Denk is, at 44, in the prime of his busy career. He performs all over the world as a soloist, with orchestras and with chamber ensembles such as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He’s assembled a catalog of more than a dozen recordings, he teaches at the New School in New York City and Bard College, and he’s become known as an insightful classical music writer for major publications like The New Yorker, The Guardian of London and The New York Times Review of Books.

Last year, he was the music director of the Ojai Music Festival for which he wrote the libretto for a comic opera. And in 2013 he was awarded the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellowship.

His bio lists as one of the highlights of his 2014-2015 season his debut with the Cleveland Orchestra under Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki. And here it is! He’ll perform Bela Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in two performances at Severance Hall, bookended by the Orchestra’s performances of Sibelius’ The Oceanides and Stravinsky’s Pétrouchka.

Tickets are $29-$149.

The orchestra and Denk will repeat the performance Friday evening at a venue Denk knows well: Oberlin College’s Finney Chapel. Denk is an Oberlin graduate. Tickets are $35.
