A lot has happened to local folk-rock singer/guitarist Maura Rogers since the release of her 2012 debut album A Good Heart Will Break with her band the Bellows. And it was literally life-threatening and life-changing. Following the release of that album, she had a kidney transplant and spent time recuperating before hitting area stages again. And the donor was the band’s accordion/ukulele player/backing vocalist Meredith Pangrace. The two women also perform as the Bean Sisters and have told their compelling story often.

Her passage through that difficult time and the bond she forged with Pangrace undoubtedly underpin the second album by Maura Rogers and the Bellows, titled In Light, which they funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign last year. What’s certain is that it will contain the sort of graceful music that made A Good Heart Will Break such a great listen with a delicate balance of spirited and introspective tunes.

The group, which also includes guitarist Istvan Medgyesi, bassist Brent Stowe and drummer Jeff Babinsky, will introduce the album with a show at the Beachland Tavern. They promise that after their set “there will be dancing, drinking, and celebratory love in honor of the band’s journey over the past three years. “ The duo of Benjamin Barr and Len Ganley, known collectively as the Duals, opens.

Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
