When Andrew W.K. first hit the national scene in 2001, it was hard to know what to make of him. His recorded music sounded like second-rate hair metal crossed with third-rate Bob Seger, and his “Party Til You Puke” persona seemed frankly out of touch with the times. His appearance on the side stage at Ozzfest that year earned derision and laughter.
But it turned out he was going for the laughter and entertainment value, developing a comedic personality that parodied the party-hearty attitude taken seriously by a lot of frat bros.
His music career pretty much peaked with his 2001 album I Get Wet, but his overall career keeps developing intriguing new pathways. He’s become a lecturer, a motivational speaker, a writer, a TV personality, a music producer and an advice columnist. So anything could happen when he makes a special solo appearance at the Grog Shop. Northeast Ohio pop rockers Total Babes open.
