Local Indie Rockers Midnight Passenger Release Debut After a Decade @Mahalls20Lanes

Perhaps the main reason Cleveland indie rock quartet  Midnight Passenger aren’t better known than they are is because they’re just not very prolific. They’ve played some high-profile events in the last year, including Brite Winter Fest, Weapons of Mass Creation and the Cellar Door Rendezvous at the Beachland. But although they formed nearly a decade ago, the only recording they had in their catalog was an EP, the appropriately titled Long Time Waiting, in 2011.

That could have been the title of their debut CD too. Instead they’ve named the album Calypso. It has the intense, driving melodicism that has propelled bands from U2 to Psychedelic Furs to Coldplay, with Tony Zaro’s tremulous, acrobatic tenor adding another level of urgency to the songs.

Midnight Passenger will celebrate the release of the album with a show at Mahall’s. Corduroy Season and Nights open. Jenna Fournier of Nights sang on Calypso so presumably she’ll be joining the band onstage for the parts she contributed to the album.
