“I’ve always felt that I should run my gallery like it was a refuge. Music, art, free expression. That is why we all do it, right? In all honesty, I want my gallery to be a place where people feel comfortable,” says Bryon Miller, owner of Gallery One Sixty (16008 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland, Ohio 44110) in the Waterloo Arts District.

Bryon took over the building three years ago and opened the gallery two years. He has dialed down his monthly exhibits to just 5 or 6 a year so people can really absorb the work and take the time and energy toward really digesting the art. This Fri 4/3, Gallery One Sixty presents artist Kerry Lange’s works, Creatures of Flight.

“I’ve known Kerry for a long time, at least 15 years,” Bryon continues. “She’s doing things artistically that caught my eye, and happened to be at an opening I was having. I guess the rest is where we’re at now.”

Kerry’s collection of works, Creatures of Flight, explores the sense of freedom and the sequential life stages of winged beings.

“As creatures with only arms and legs, we are ultimately anatomically confined to a surface. Dreaming about flight is both a common and liberating experience, a sense I was driven to explore. I think these lucidities evoke exhilaration and sometimes uneasiness within. I wanted to create creatures and their life stages depicting similar feelings,” explains Kerry.

“By honing in on vibrant colors and rich textures, I was able to give these creations an energy that is perspicuous. While creating these pieces I was pushed to dive deeper into the meaning and reasoning for flight, in dreams and reality,” she continues. “Flight can change your location, view, options, and perception. It’s no wonder why this action frequents our dreams.”

Free and open to the public, the show begins at 5PM and goes til midnight. Special musical guest We Can Never Leave will be playing their experimental sounds, and refreshments will be served.

“I hope that my work transmits an energy to my audience that is fanciful and lucid,” says Kerry. “I would like anyone that views this collection to leave with a wonderment of flight in dreams, reality and the creatures that posses this function,” Kerry exudes.

“You have to keep your eyes open in this town, it’s full of amazing talent,” Bryon concludes.
