Tri-C JazzFest presents singer Ester Rada

Born in Israel to Ethiopian Jewish refugees, singer Ester Rada grew up in a whirlwind of culture influences. After finishing a mandatory tour in the Israeli army, she worked as an actress, then returned to her first love: music. Rada cites strong influences from early 20th century soul power women Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, as well as a great appreciation for more contemporary black divas including Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott.

Critics describe her genre mixing sound as “gracefully combining Ethio-Jazz funk, soul and r&b, with mixed undertones of black grooves.” Ester Rada is bringing a new voice to soul that is already spreading worldwide.

Tri-C JazzFest celebrates International Jazz Day April 30 by bringing Rada’s world sound to the Hanna Theatre.
