Columbus-based Ekoostik Hookah are the godfathers of the contemporary midwest jam band scene, having formed in 1991 just as that scene was gearing up for a forceful new lease on life. In that time, members have come and gone to form spin-off groups, and the band’s Hookahville festivals exposed their audience to a new generation of jam bands while giving them an opportunity to hear some of the founder of the original jam scene. So their influence has hundreds of offshoots.
And the band still has a loyal following which eagerly greets each return to town, such as their upcoming gig at the Kent Stage. There,Cleveland’s Aliver Hall, one of the young bands keeping the jam flag flying, will open.
