The next concert in Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Heritage series is a two-fer: a pair of ensembles who’ll perform an evening of engaging acoustic music at the park’s Happy Days Lodge.
Boston’s Tall Heights, the duo of Tim Harrington and Paul Wright, cut their teeth as street performers before getting serious, hitting the road, putting out a couple of EPs and releasing their debut album Man of Stone in 2013. There’s an earnest, traditional feel to their acoustic guitar-underpinned music with its soaring but not overstated harmonies, which will occasionally remind you of Simon & Garfunkel.
Cambridge, Massachusetts quartet Darlingside also focuses on harmonies, layering them over stringed instruments, including cello, mandolin, violin, bass and guitar. They weave them into an intricate interplay of shared lead vocals as they cluster around a single mic, building an upward spiral of startling force. There are hints of everything from bluegrass to classical to barbershop in their organic, meltingly tender music.
For lovers of exquisite vocals and finely crafted traditional folk-style songs, it’s an evening not to be missed.
