In November of 2014, the Red Satin Cabaret, a song and dance show designed around the music of the ’40s and ’50s  jazz and swing era, was manifested inside the head of Producer, Choreographer, Director and Designer Jill Chetter. She had the idea and desire to develop a show, that in heart, she knew would be well-received by people who loved and enjoyed great entertainment.

“After I bothered Ron Willner, Entertainment Manager of the Alex Theater, we sat down to talk about the idea,” explains Jill. “I basically asked if he thought this could be something that might work and be appreciated at the Alex Theater. He said he thought so and to go for it. At that point, my work begun. I was putting together names, calling my performers, laying out the songs, choreographing and designing a costume scheme.”

The first show debuted on January 24th and has been a hit ever since!

“People comment how great the music is,” says Jill. “I think people appreciate the jazz and swing era of music — the songs made known by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. The thing is, these tunes are all around us every day. Michael Buble made a successful career performing these tunes. Harry Connick Jr. did as well. This music is very much alive and well.”

Company performers include: Maria Lister Lyons (Lead Female Vocalist), Jeremy James Verdi (Lead Male Vocalist), Sarah Menser (Lead Dancer), Hannah Green (Lead Dancer), Kelly Tomko (Lead Dancer), Lucas DeWindt (Lead Dancer/Back-Up Vocals), Jill Tschetter (Back-Up Dance/Vocals), The 7-person cast is a combination of dancers and vocalists that put on a lively and entertaining performance for all ages.

“I love this show because of the people in it,” Jill shares. “This is a dynamic, generous, positive and fun-loving company, not to mention extremely talented. What makes things work are that these performers are of the best quality…kind, flexible and dedicated people. You can do anything with good people,” she continues.

“What makes what we’re doing different is the heavy amount of dancing in the show. It’s not people standing and singing at a mic. I have dancers that are trained and proficient. They carry the stories in the tunes along visually while my lead vocalists tell the stories vocally! I’m a dance person…that’s a large piece of my background, so I wanted dance. Plus, with the mass popularity of certain dance competition shows on T.V. lately, dance is something that really excites and intrigues people of all ages.

“The audiences have been extremely thrilled with this production,” Jill states excitedly. “I know the show’s good, but the excellent responses have really knocked me off my feet! Mostly people say it ends too soon and they wanted it to go on longer…that’s NEVER a bad thing to hear. So we’ve been growing the show. We’ve added 5 new numbers since we opened.”

Red Satin Cabaret is showing exclusively at The 9’s Alex Theater, this intimate space is the perfect location to house a small crowd of 80 people. The sexy, fun and classic performance currently showcases songs like “Stormy Weather,” “Fever,”and “Too Darn Hot.”

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at EventBrite before the show or at the door before the show.
