Get Ready for Spring! Mulberry Creek Herb Farm Opens This Week

Are you ready to start your garden? After the heavy snows of this past winter, you can probably hardly wait.

Even if the ground’s not quite workable by St. Patrick’s Day (the usual time to put in cold-hardly plants like peas), it’s time to start thinking about what you want to grow. And there’s no better place to start than with herbs, most of which can go outside relatively soon (keep the basil indoors until it’s warm though!)

Luckily, Mulberry Creek Herb Farm, the family-owned organic herb family in Huron, opens for the season this week. While they won’t have their usual vast array of herbs until next month, you can get some of the basics started now, although you may want to keep them in the house on a sunny window sill for a while. If you’re longing for a fresh pot of basil, oregano or rosemary to let you know spring is coming, head on out.

You can also check out their newly renovated faery area — one of their specialties is miniature plants and tiny accessories to go with them — and enjoy Irish and medieval refreshments, the former in honor of the holiday, the latter a taste of the theme of this year’s Herb Fair, coming up on June 27-28. There’ll also be fresh greens and eggs available while they last.

From now until the end of the season in July, they’ll be open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm., with Sunday hours in May
