Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, tends to eschew stuffy classical music formality. Its next program Blues Café 1610 follows that pattern. Four vocalists, a percussionist and the group’s usual array of outstanding string players, along the Apollo’s Fire co-founder/music director/harpsichordist Jeannette Sorrell, will gather for what they describe as “a 17th century baroque jazz session invoking the atmosphere of an intimate Italian or Spanish café.”

Soprano Nell Snaidas, tenors Oliver Mercer and Karim Sulayman, baritone Jeffrey Strauss and percussionist Rex Benincasa will join the orchestra players for love ballads and madrigals, while the orchestra plays some infectious, jazzy instrumental pieces.

They’ll perform at Temple Tifereth-Israel on Thu 2/12, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Fri 2/13, at Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Sun 2/15, and at Fairlawn Lutheran Church in Akron on Mon 2/16. Each will be preceded an hour before showtime by a lecture from Benincasa.

On Sat 2/14, they’ll perform the program at a new venue for the group: the Music Box Supper Club. There you can also enjoy an optional dinner starting at 6pm; call the club at 216-242-1250 to make a dinner reservation.

Tickets for the concert range from $20-$68.
