Akron singer/songwriter/guitarist Ryan Humbert not only performs his own high-quality original music, he also puts together intriguing concept shows, drawing on the talents of a wide circle of collaborators. He’s done tributes to Hank Williams and Roy Orbison, as well as his annual Christmas extravaganzas for which he brings together large groups of musicians.
Last year, he did a pair of performances of a show called Tangled Up in Dylan, featuring the music of Bob Dylan, who has in some way influenced virtually every singer-songwriter out there. The show included songs from every period of Dylan’s career, ranging from seminal pieces like “All Along the Watchtower,” “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and “Like a Rolling Stone,” to obscurities and B-sides beloved by Dylan completists.
He performed the show at the Akron Civic Theatre and the Gervasi Vineyard in Canton. He’s now bringing it up north to Cleveland where he’ll be performing it at the Music Box Supper Club. The seven-piece band will include Erin Vaughn, Emily Bates, Ben Evans, Matthew Middleton, Dan Nauss and Mary Kettering.
