Arts Tax Is Up for Renewal
Will Our County Support Our Arts Scene?

In 2006, Cuyahoga County went from one of the country’s least supportive regions for the arts to one of its most supportive virtually overnight.

The reason? That year, it passed a 30-cents-a-pack tax on cigarettes to fund the arts organizations, artists, and special arts and culture events that are one of the area’s true strengths. That tax will be on the ballot for renewal this Fall…

Spice Up Valentines!
Attend Le Femme Mystique Burlesque’s Sweetheart Showcase

If you’re looking to spice up your Valentine’s Day then you have to check out Ohio Burlesque’s “Sweetheart Showcase” on Sat 2/14 @ 8:00pm at the Beachland Ballroom. The show will feature national acts like renowned artists Apathy Angel, Lilly Rascal and Ruby Solitaire and local favorite Doll Bambino.

CoolCleveland Correspondent Marty Bielat met up with the show’s Producer Bella Sin. Sin, who will also be performing in the show, told us about her organization and burlesque itself. While the show might be intimidating to some, Sin assures that attendees will have their minds blown (in a good way.)

CMSD students hit the stage this week with auditions concluding for the upcoming All-City Arts spring musical: “Memphis.” More than 100 students from 20 different schools came out to PlayhouseSquare to audition for roles through singing, acting and dancing.

Students in grades 8th through 12th poured their hearts and souls out for the chance to work with sought-after professional directors, stage managers and costume designers, whom have worked worldwide. The musical is being produced through the CMSD’s All-City Arts, which is a district-wide after school and weekend program providing artistic and college readiness skills for students. Break a leg!

The Have a Heart Bachelors and Bachelorettes benefit event is back. This always fun night of doing good is a favorite crowd pleaser for an excellent cause.

If you have yet to experience MOCA Cleveland’s new exhibition by Ragnar Kjartansson, entitled “The Visitors,” then you have to make your way over to their University Circle location to check it out. “The Visitors” highlights eight performers collaborating on one song, separately, for 64 minutes, in the same New York mansion.

CoolCleveland was on the scene last week at MOCA’s Winter/Spring opening night, and caught some testimonials of art lovers immersing themselves in the piece. You could tell they were all moved, inspired, and in sheer awe. “The Visitors” will be on display until Sun 5/24.
