The Lakeland Jazz Fest at Lakeland Community College may not be a glitzy and high-profile as the Tri-C Jazz Fest. But it’s a sturdy local tradition going into its 43rd year.
The highlights of the event are evening performances by some outstanding local ensembles. One of the most prominent Latin jazz ensembles in the area, Sammy De Leon (pictured) y su Orquesta featuring pianist Jackie Warren, perform Sat 2/21 @ 8PM. Tickets are $12, $7 for students.
The big band matinee Sun 2/22 @ 4PM features the Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Dave Sterner and the Baldwin Wallace University Jazz Ensemble under thee direction of Greg Banaszak, playing a program called “Blues, Ballads, Be-Bop and Beyond.” Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students.
During the day regional high school student ensembles will perform and be adjudicated by professionals. You can come catch some of all of it at Lakeland’s Rodehorst Performing Arts Center. lakelandcc.edu/apps/
