Akron vocalist Jocelyn Grant cut her teeth on gospel as a child before expanding into more grown-up forms of music such as jazz, classical, soul and funk.
She’s performed with groups like the Summit Choral Society and the Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop and been a featured soloist at the Akron Symphony’s annual Gospel Meets Symphony.
Recently, she recorded a new EP called Hope, her first significant release. It draws on both her love of soul music and her faith grounding in gospel. She’ll celebrate its release with an intimate cabaret show at the Akron Civic Theatre, where she’ll be backed by a small ensemble and three vocalists.
